Title: The role of public appraisal for local authorities’ efforts in developing tourism

Abstract: The paper represents the results and empirical data from a survey among general public within a selected municipality. It is considered that such surveys are vital for understanding the community position, expectations and understanding. It is generally the consumer (tourist) considered as main factor to be surveyed. The aim is to show that the public appraisal is extremely important and should be considered prior to any initiatives launching tourism development strategy or destination marketing and promotion.
