Abstract:
The author is a full-time lecturer in Information-Retrieval Systems at the Department of Library, scientific information and cultural policy at the Philosophy Faculty of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
The article analyzed the social dimensions of contemporary WWW technologies and their impact on library activities. Emphasis is placed on issues relating to: the emergence and development of Web 2.0 (social networks) and Web 3.0 (Semantic Web); Web search engines and their improvement; evolution of library Web platforms (Library 1.0, Library 2.0, Library 3.0) and their user profiles; role of libraries to improve information services online, as well as key components of modern library network resources and services.
