It is a first step towards such rationalization and focuses exclusively on presenting the longest possible time series of various indicators and thus tries to introduce reference to them in future discussions, interpretations and evaluations. The text deliberately tries to avoid interpretations and evaluations and to concentrate on establishing the reality of what actually happened. The main conclusions reached are two. First, the emerging picture gives interesting and worthy of further academic study nuances. Second, it is sufficient to render a number of established during the last decades myths about the Bulgarian economic reality before and after the end of socialism substantively refuted. Sedlarski, Teodor An Institutional Evolution of Societies towards Open Access and Market Exchange? Teodor Sedlarski This article investigates the analytical line of reasoning in D. North’s, J. Wallis’ and B. Weingast’s research project “Violence and Social Orders”, which unifies in an institutional explanation scheme the control over violence in human societies, the equilibrium of interests among the ruling coalition that secures the peace, and the possible transition to impersonal exchange. As the market exchange isn’t a naturally given form of organizing social interaction, but requires erecting of specific institutional settings, this study demonstrates the new institutional approach to the explanation of the developments in economic history which made free markets and the democratic state organization possible during the European Renaissance. Research projects like Nort’s, Wallis’ and Weingast’s pave the way for creating a modern political economy, which - based on a contemporary analytical apparatus – synthesizes the achievements in the social sciences of the last decades with the tradition of the early economic thought. Резюме: В статията е представена аналитичната линия, развита в изследва- нето на Дъглас Норт, Джон Уолис и Бари Уайнгаст "Насилие и социален ред", обвърз- ваща в единна институционална обясни- телна схема контрола върху насилието в човешките общества, равновесието на интересите на коалицията от елити, оси- гуряваща мира и възможността за преми- наване към разменни отношения без оглед на конкретната личност. Доколкото пазар- ната размяна като форма на организация на обществените взаимодействия не е естествено дадена, а изисква изграждане- то на специфична институционална среда, е демонстрирано приложението на ново- институционалния подход в стопанскоис- торическото обяснение на развитията, направили пазарите и демократичното об- ществено устройство възможни в условия- та на европейския Ренесанс. Студии като тази на Норт, Уолис и Уайнгаст проправят пътя към създаването на модерна полити- ческа икономия, която на основата на съ- временен аналитичен апарат синтезира постиженията в обществените науки от последните десетилетия с ранната тради- ция на икономическите учения. 2012-10-15T00:00:00Z
