Title: Репрезентации на три балкански града (Ниш, София и Букурещ) в контекста на тъмния туризъм (dark tourism)
Authors: Мончева, Ивелина; Moncheva, Ivelina
Abstract: Stone (2006) argues that dark tourism involves visits to sites, attractions and exhibitions, which main or dominant themes have real or animated scenes of death, suffering, massacres. The paper focuses on the representations of the cities in the context of dark tourism on The Balkans, often imagined as “a shadow-land of mystery” (Todorova 2009: 29). The aim of the paper is to explore the concept of dark tourism, its implementation and the communication of collective/national memory and (political) ideology through dark sites. From Stone’s typological perspective, dark attractions themselves are classified into a number of different types.

Authors: Георгиев, Емил; Georgiev, Emil
Abstract: This article deals with quality management as an aspect of business management. Quality management is analyzed in two opposing paradigmatic approaches. The first one is being the techno-economic universalism, which accepts that there is always one single "best way" to manage. Management is regarded as a purely technical process, allowing for its complete standardization. This approach is based on the popular international standard for quality management ISO9001. The second one is the social approach defining management as a form of human activity, aimed at achieving specific goals, and depending on a specific cultural environment. In the sociological perspective, "quality" is considered as a socially constructed convention, while quality management (an aspect of business management) - as a social process that can't be formally standardized.

Authors: Благоев, Димитър; Blagoev, Dimitar
Abstract: Paper presents, on the background of a discussion on prerequisites for “classness” and socio-historical construction of “class”, a conceptual framework for sociological understanding of possibility conditions for middle class emergence and evolvement as a “producer” of life chances. Several socio-economic processes are discussed that engender the middle class’ shifts towards life chances “consumption” and back to their “production”.

Abstract: This text presents the results of the analysis of quantitative data obtained through the accomplishment of the interdisciplinary project "The role of policies for fight against corruption and organized crime in the relationships between Bulgaria and the EU, 2007-2012." The reports of the European Commission (EC) under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) have been the subject of analysis. The systematic analysis reveals the political and methodological reasons for the ineffectiveness of the anti-corruption policies in Bulgaria and Romania. At the same time, the empirical facts prove that during the studied period, the EC becomes more tangibly aware of the complementarity between the political corruption and the lack of progress in reforming the judicial system. The Commission, however, does not change its approach aiming at "comprehensive and far-reaching reform" through procedural and technological changes in the institutions which should implement anti-corruption policies. This approach dooms the MCV to failure. Only after the mechanism’s implementation crisis, being unable to achieve its own objectives for seven years already, the Commission's attention has been attracted by the crucial role of a player outside the legal and political system, namely the citizenship and the civil society.
